Governance

How Edgewold is run

The Edgewold Civic Association is run by a board of resident volunteers. The board manages the park, common ground, annual dues, infrastructure projects, and the legal and administrative life of the nonprofit corporation that holds title to the shared land.

Decisions of real consequence — bylaw changes, major expenditures, matters touching the common ground — go to the full membership for a vote.

Founding documents

The corporation's founding documents — the 1954 charter, the deed conveying the park to the association, and the 1992 amended bylaws — are archived in the bylaws section. They are the authoritative record of how the association was constituted and operates.

Current initiatives

Bylaw modernization

A restatement is underway to align the governing documents with how the association actually operates today.

Records and continuity

Centralizing financial records, minutes, contracts, and the member roster, with handoff procedures for board turnover.

Risk and insurance

Reviewing general liability and D&O coverage against current activities and assets.

Infrastructure inventory

Documented assessment of bridge, walls, trees, and other shared infrastructure so maintenance can be prioritized rather than reactive.

Stewardship of shared assets

Annual dues support maintenance of the park, shared infrastructure (the bridge, retaining walls, common areas), insurance and legal compliance, and long-term preservation of community property.

The board operates on a small budget by design — the work happens because residents take part in it directly, not because there's a management company to outsource to.

Reaching the board

The board can be reached at edgewoldca@gmail.com. Routine matters are also raised at neighborhood meetings, which are announced through the news section.
